When Flavour Meets Warmth
Last Saturday, my husband and I slipped into Mr Biryani on Chander Road for a simple lunch that somehow became the highlight of our weekend.
The moment we entered, the space felt alive with warm light, the subtle hum of conversation, and that unmistakable biryani aroma that wraps around you like a comfort blanket.
The manager greeted every guest personally, offering recommendations based on their mood and spice tolerance. It is rare these days to see someone so genuinely attentive, moving table to table with quiet confidence and pride in his food.
The Star of the Table
We started with Gobi Manchurian, crisp florets glazed in a tangy spicy sauce that struck the perfect balance. Then came the Chicken Dum Biryani, its long grained rice soft, moist, and fragrant with layers of saffron and subtle heat. My husband swore it was one of the best he had tasted and for once, I actually finished my plate.
The Tiger Prawn Biryani followed, generous in portion and luxuriously rich without being oily. Each bite carried that unmistakable depth only a slow cooked broth can give. Alongside it, a comforting bowl of Urad Dal (Ulutham Kanji), thick and soulful, grounded the meal with its creamy texture.
To end, we tried their Gulab Jamun smooth, golden, just sweet enough and a touch of Black Lentil Paste that added earthiness. Paired with Masala Tea and Vietnamese Coffee, the finale felt indulgent yet familiar.
A Hidden Gem for Gatherings
After lunch, we took a peek into their function room, and it is honestly a hidden gem. Spacious, air conditioned, softly lit, it could easily host intimate weddings, family events, or corporate dinners for about 40 to 50 guests. The setup is flexible, with enough space for a buffet spread and private dining area without losing the cosy vibe of the restaurant.
Service with Heart
The staff carried the same warmth as the food responsive without hovering, respectful without formality. Dishes arrived hot, fresh, and with generous portions that made the experience feel well worth its price.
Why It Stands Out
In a city bursting with dining options, Mr Biryani distinguishes itself through authenticity, consistency, and genuine hospitality. This was not just lunch it was a reminder that halal dining can be both refined and deeply comforting.
We left full, happy, and convinced that this is where we would host our next family celebration.
